Rising Star Award for RDAM Violinist

Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen receives the Rising Star Award of the Crown Prince Couple

The violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen receives one of the Crown Prince Couple's Rising Star Awards, that apart from the recognition also consists of DKK 50,000 and a grand concert in the Opera House in Sydney in October 2013. The reason for the award mentions that Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen "impresses us with his precise and tender play, his superior technique and melodiousness. Few other musicians in the classical music world does more for mixing the classical music with elements from the Danish folk music."

Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen (b. 1983) graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Music with a spectacular debut concert in 2009, that did just that, mixed classical music with elements from folk music. Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen has since 2008 taught at the academy and is also concertmaster in Copenhagen Phil (formerly Copenhagen Philharmonics) as well as violinist in the Danish String Quartet, that also has its base from RDAM. He is moreover member of the folk music trio Dreamer's Circus.

The other recipient of the Rising Star Award is the singer and songwriter MØ (Karen Marie Ørsted).
