Carl Nielsen celebration

New website celebrating the great Danish composer

On www.carlnielsen.org you can delve into Nielsen's life, listen to his music and get an overview of all the great concerts and events happening in connection with the celebration.

DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) is the initiator of the website and it was created in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy of Music and a number of other Danish cultural institutions. The intention is to disseminate the knowledge of the national composer through this new portal that contains biographical essays, lots of music and pictures from the composer's life - available at no cost.

With contributions from the recording company Dacapo it is possible to explore a comprehensive Carl-Nielsen discography, where it is possible to listen to the many splendid works. The Royal Library has likewise put notes on the website and you can delve on more than 70 original pictures of the Danish national composer.

Last, but not least, the Carl Nielsen portal is the largest collected calendar directory of the many national and international events taking place during the Nielsen Year.

The Royal Danish Academy of Music organizes several Nielsen events in 2015. The International Carl Nielsen Chamber Music Competition arranged in collaboration with DR and the Royal Library, RDAM's annual Celebration Concert, conducted by Michael Schønwandt with an all-Nielsen programme, as well as the summer concert in Tivoli with Nielsen's violin, clarinet or flute concert. Who will be soloist at this concert will be decided at RDAM's soloist competition in March. The whole competition will be open to the general public.

www.carlnielsen.org is a cooperation between DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation), The Royal Library, The Royal Danish Academy of Music, Odense City Museums, Dacapo Records and the Carl Nielsen Society.

The portal could not have been implemented without the generous economical support from the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Foundation.
