Hans Abrahamsen wins The Nordic Council Music Prize 2016

RDAM associate professor awarded prestigious Nordic prize

RDAM associate professor Hans Abrahamsen was awarded the Nordic Council Music Prize 2016 for his work Let Me Tell Me for soprano and orchestra. The work was commissioned by The Berlin Philharmonic and soprano Barbara Hannigan, and is written to a text by Paul Griffiths with words taken from Ophelia’s lines in Shakespeare's Hamlet.

The Nordic Council Music Prize is a prestigious award with nominees from all Nordic countries and from different music genres. The prize consists of DKK 350,000.

Earlier this year Hans Abrahamsen was awarded the prestigious American prize "The Grawemeyer Award" of $100,000, and in September he was awarded The Gramophone Contemporary Award 2016.

Hans Abrahamsen (born 1952) has been a teacher at The Royal Danish Academy of Music since 1995.
