The Léonie Sonning Music Foundation

Nine out of this year's ten scholarship recipients are students at The Royal Danish Academy of Music

On 7th April the Swedish conductor Herbert Blomstedt will receive The Sonning Music Award 2016 of DKK 600,000. Every year the Music Foundation hands out scholarships for the same amount to young Scandinavian music talents. The scholarships cannot be applied for, but are handed out by the board of the Music Foundation.

This year ten young musicians were given DKK 60,000 each and nine of these are students at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. The nine musicians are: Martin Stauning, composer, Lea Quortrup, soprano, Kirstine Schneider, violin, Joachim Becerra Thomsen, flute, Jonas Lyskjær Frølund, clarinet, Jákup Lützen, viola, Jacob la Cour, cello, Frederik Päevatalu Rolin, baritone, Elisabeth Holmegaard Nielsen, piano. The last award recipient is Maria Badstue, conductor.

In connection with receiving the award Herbert Blomstedt will give a master class for RDAM conductors in DR Koncerthuset.
