Léonie Sonning Talent Prizes 2017

Eight out of this year's nine talent prize winners are students at The Royal Danish Academy of Music

In January the Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos was awarded The Sonning Music Prize 2017 of DKK 600,000. Every year the Music Foundation awards talent prizes for the same amount to young Scandinavian music talents. The prizes cannot be applied for, but are awarded by the board of the Music Foundation.

This year nine young musicians were awarded, and eight of these are students at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. The eight musicians are: Victor Sørensen, viola, Theis Stoico, trombone, Ingrid Søfteland Neset, flute, Jonathan Swensen, cello, Daniel Davidsen, tonmeister, Anna Egholm, violin, Mikkel Egelund Nielsen, guitar, and Nordic String Quartet. The last prize winner is Allan Gravgaard Madsen, composer and student at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus.

In connection with receiving the Music Prize Leonidas Kavakos gave a master class for RDAM violinists.
