Léonie Sonning Talent Prize 2018

Nine out of this year's ten talent prize winners are students at The Royal Danish Academy of Music

On Friday 9 March the conductor Mariss Jansons will be awarded The Sonning Music Prize 2018 of DKK 600,000. Every year the Music Foundation awards talent prizes for the same amount to young Scandinavian music talents. The prizes cannot be applied for, but are awarded by the board of the Music Foundation.

This year ten young musicians were awarded, and nine of these are students at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. The nine RDAM students are: Vera Panitch, violin, Niklas Johansen, guitar, Marthe Grimsrud Husum, viola, Kern Westerberg, violin, Christian Grøvlen, piano, Bára Gísladóttir, composer, Anders Kann Elten, percussion, Mathias Monrad Møller, composer and voice, and David Bendix Nielsen, organ. The last prize winner is Gustav Piekut, piano student at Universität der Künste, Berlin.

Meet this year’s Sonning Music Prize Winner Mariss Jansons in conversation with academy conductor students and Michael Schønwandt, Thursday 8 March at 16:00.
