RDAM Annual Gala Concert 2020

Royal visit at the Royal Danish Academy of Music’s Annual Gala Concert

Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is protector of the Royal Danish Academy of Music. In this capacity she visited the Academy’s Annual Gala Concert, which was held 20 November 2020.

The programme consisted of Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, as well as the premiere of two contemporary pieces. The first premiere was a trumpet concerto composed by RDAM graduate, Connor McLean. The solo part was performed by student of the Advanced Postgraduate (Soloist) Programme, Victor Koch Jensen. The second premiere was a composition for body percussion by composer Rune Thorsteinsson, which included both the Academy’s Symphony Orchestra as well as students from the Music Teaching Programme. In between these two pieces, President Uffe Savery, held a speech. After the break the Academy’s Symphony Orchestra performed Tchaikovsky’s 4th symphony. The entire programme was conducted by Julien Salemkour.

As a new initiative, school children were invited to hear highlights from the concert at the dress rehearsal. Further, the concert was repeated on 21 November and both concerts were live streamed in order to reach a wider audience.
