Jens Elvekjær was trained by Prof. John Damgaard at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus and has also studied with Ferenc Rados in Budapest, Lazar Berman in Florence and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the conservatory in Vienna. He has also studied chamber music with the Alban Berg Quartet at Musikhochchule in Cologne.
He has performed at the highest international level both as a soloist and as a pianist in the Trio con Brio Copenhagen, and he has through the years received numerous awards and honors (including Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, the first prize in DR Chamber Music Competition, 1st prize in the Brahms Wettbewerb (Austria), best ensemble in the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). In 2005 he was the first Dane to be appointed Steinway Artist. Numerous tours have taken him around large parts of Europe, Asia and the USA where he (in his trio or alone) has played in legendary concert halls such as the Berlin Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Carnegie Hall, NY. Most recently, he has been the soloist in Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Several striking CD recordings completes the picture of Jens Elvekjær as an artist.
As a teacher, Jens Elvekjær has given master classes in Europe and the United States (including Yale University), and the RDAM where he has been a teacher since 2008, including teaching some students in the soloist class. From 2012 he works as a associate professor at the Academy, and from 1 April 2020 he was appointed a Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
