Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen has had extensive concert activity as an organist at international level in Denmark, Europe and the USA, and has for many years been organist at Frederiksborg Castle Chapel, with its historic Compenius organ from 1610.
Sven-Ingvart trained at academies of music in Esbjerg, Copenhagen, Vienna and Paris, and made his debut concert in 1982. He has gained extensive teaching experience from RDAM and the Danish National Academy of Music, and since 2017 he has been employed as a department head at RDAM. He has also held many master classes in Denmark, Europe and the USA.
As a concert organist, Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen has played in a number of European countries and in the USA, and he has performed as a soloist on numerous CD recordings, including with organ works by Nicolaus Bruhns, Georg Böhm, Jean-Adam Guilain, Nicolas de Grigny and J.A. Scheibe. He has also conducted research and published books on French baroque and Gregorian chant, the composer J.A. Scheibe and the historic Compenius organ at Frederiksborg Castle. As a church musician, Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen has inter alia been employed at Løgumkloster Church and Frederiksborg Castle. He is now organist and concert organiser at St. Mark’s Church in Frederiksberg.
Sven-Ingvart contributes in an enterprising manner to the Academy’s artistic and pedagogical development, ‘Artistic Research’, which helps to make the teaching even more up-to-date and relevant for the students.
In December 2019, Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen was appointed Professor of Organ at The Royal Danish Academy.
