The new music and art scene has never been more diverse. PULSAR 2018 presents a 360° overview of upcoming works by young composers and artists at the music academy and the schools of visual arts.
PULSAR 2018 consists of 14 concerts and builds upon the existing collaboration with the Schools of Visual Arts of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Through this collaboration, works by the young artists will be presented together with cross-aesthetic performances and sound-art. In conjunction with this cross-aesthetic meeting, PULSAR 2018 will also focus on the sensuous universe of the Danish/French painter and sound-artist, Knud Viktor.
The composer-in-residence at PULSAR 2018 is Korean-born Unsuk Chin, whose luminous and dynamic music will be represented at the festival through two Danish premieres by the Danish National Chamber Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR). This year, the long-standing collaboration between PULSAR and DR will be expanded through the inclusion of a concert with the Danish National Vocal Ensemble, serving as a culmination of a workshop for 4 young composers from DKDM.
The guest ensemble for PULSAR 2018 is Esbjerg Ensemble, whose 10 musicians will premiere brand-new compositions following a workshop with composers from the music academies at Copenhagen and Aarhus. These new works will be set in contrast to Pantomime by Bent Sørensen, with Katrine Gislinge as piano soloist.
PULSAR 2018 has been made possible in collaboration with the Schools of Visual Arts at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, DR, and Esbjerg Ensemble. Nonetheless, the fundamental DNA of PULSAR is, and always has been, works composed by young composers at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and performed by vocal and instrumental students from the academy.
